Cable Avoidance Tool & Signal Generator

Course Description

A Cat (Cable Avoidance Tool) is used to detect underground utilities such as electricity cables, gas pipes, water, and telecom lines. A Genny (Signal Generator) enhances detection by transmitting a signal along conductive services. Our training ensures operators can use this equipment correctly to prevent utility strikes, injuries, death and costly damage.

Overview:

  • Understanding the equipment, uses and controls

  • Understanding how to locate, identify and use controls on the equipment

  • Pre-operational checks in accordance with legislation and manufacturers guidance

  • Identify different underground services

  • Safe use and practical operation​

Assessment & Certification

Participants will be assessed through a short theory test and practical assessment. Successful candidates receive a certificate of competence, valid for 3 years.
